Dark Sky West Marin is looking for volunteers to help us protect Marin’s beautiful nightscapes.

Next stargaze window is fast approaching – set to open with this weekend’s 3rd quarter Moon and run through the new Moon on August 4. At present, Sunday the 28th looks promising for clear skies in the evening. If the forecast holds, we’ll convene by the White Barn for a hard start at 9:30 pm. Entrance is through the gate at 3rd and C Streets in Point Reyes Station. Look for updates here in the next few days. In the meantime, you’ll find a link below to a commentary on this week’s transit of the Moon across the celestial Sea, as well as charts and commentary for the stars of August. Instructions for how to read a star chart are included at the end of the commentary. Plenty to keep one occupied as we await arrival of the window. Stay tuned!
