December’s stargaze window draws to a close with today’s new moon. Next window of opportunity opens with the third quarter moon on January 21st. Let’s hope for clear skies then. Charts for the stars of January are posted below, along with a guide to reading them. Also posted is a guide to telling time by the hands of the Queen, Cassiopeia. Give it a try when the clouds allow – you’ll find her flying high in the northern skies this time of year. Also look for the full Moon to occult the planet Mars on the 13th, starting at about 5:30. Plenty to do as we await the next community stargaze.
